Corpus Christi City Council Voting to Ban Outdoor Music?

I got this email from a radio station in Corpus Christi. Makes for an interesting read... Should be interesting to see how this turns out.

This is a heads-up for those of you who enjoy live music at outdoor venues. The text below is an excerpt from an email sent by our friends at Concrete Street last week:

For those of you who don't know, the City of Corpus Christi is getting ready to pass a new sound ordinance that will limit decibel levels within the city. THE DECIBEL LEVEL BEING PROPOSED WOULD ESSENTIALLY ELIMINATE THE ABILITY IN CORPUS CHRISTI FOR OUTDOOR VENUES AND CLUBS TO HOST LIVE MUSIC.

Most growing cities have realized that they should have a varying noise standard for business, entertainment, and residential districts. THE CORPUS CHRISTI ORDINANCE WOULD APPLY THE SAME STANDARDS IN KING'S CROSSING SUBDIVISION THAT IT DOES TO CONCRETE STREET WITHOUT REGARD TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND ECONOMIC IMPACT THIS VENUE HAS TO THE CITY.

Current city goals aim to recreate and rejuvenate the downtown area. It is important to have visible examples of the ongoing and growing health of The City of Corpus Christi. There will always be growing pains... whether infrastructure, parking or noise. It is important that the Police Department and the City Council arrive with a fair and impartial sound ordinance that does not hinder growth and is enforceable. It is impractical to try to legislate away all complaints. SAN ANTONIO HAS REALIZED THIS. AUSTIN HAS REALIZED THIS. NOW IS THE TIME FOR CORPUS TO REALIZE THIS.

THE ORDINANCE GOES UP FOR VOTE ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH. LET YOUR OFFICIALS KNOW HOW YOU WANT THEM TO VOTE.

Following this message was a list of the council members and their email addresses. Interesting (somewhat) news for those of us who live in the area (I don't).

Good luck to all of you from Corpus Christi who are fighting the good fight!
