It doesn’t take a veteran market analyst to know what to expect when tickets for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band go on sale tomorrow morning. The industry already caught a preview when Springsteen’s Belfast show sold out in a record eight minutes thursday, great for sellers, but the cause of some consumers spinning conspiracy theories about Ticketmaster withholding seats and brokers snagging all the tickets before they could go on sale.

There are many ways that brokers acquire tickets, most of which are the same ways the rest of us get them. They phone in orders, they buy online through Ticketmaster or Live Nation, and they stand in line at the venues and local ticket outlets. They join fan clubs to participate in presales or take part in special offers exclusive to some major credit card holders. They even buy their tickets from other brokers on the secondary market. The difference between your established broker and the average consumer is that the broker is much more seasoned at obtaining tickets, most likely has multiple people involved in the buy, and overall has much better connections. . .

But with Springsteen tickets already appearing on secondary sites such as top-ranked StubHub.com, second-ranked TicketsNow.com, third-ranked TicketLiquidator.com, fourth-ranked ABCtickets.com, fifth-ranked RazorGator.com, seventh-ranked CoasttoCoastTickets.com, and tenth-ranked TicketsPlus.com, it isn’t hard to see why people are suspicious. Britney Spears - opening at VMA awards

Britney Spears will be the opening act at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. The 25-year-old singer will perform "Gimme More," the first single from her upcoming album, at Sunday's event in Las Vegas, MTV announced yesterday. Spears (inset), whose late-night partying and erratic behavior have made her a tabloid fixture, is a veteran of the VMAs. She performed "I'm A Slave 4 U" with a 7-foot albino python around her neck in 2001. Two years later, she and Madonna stoked controversy and delighted viewers with an open-mouth kiss in the opening act.

There is one characteristic of the game, however, that most of the general public bemoans -- ticket-scalping.

Many feel that ticket scalping involves one party taking advantage of another against their will, and the name itself elicits images of a ghastly wartime tactic.

The practice of re-selling tickets couldn't be viewed in a more unfavorable -- or inaccurate -- light.

Iron Maiden - Going on Tour!

Iron Maiden is preparing to launch its most ambitious tour ever with its Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008 that includes a swing through Australia for the first time in 15 years. The world tour will consist of three legs, starting in February and March 2008, with the first leg encompassing major concerts in 20 selected cities on five continents in seven weeks, including India, Japan, North America, Central and South America and Australia. The tour opens in Perth on Feb. 4.

The tour then continues with more concerts in North America in late May and June before finishing with a third leg in July and August covering major stadiums and festivals throughout Europe. During the tour the band is expected to play to well over one and a half-million fans and travel close to 100,000 miles.

In an historic first, Iron Maiden, their 60-person crew and support staff and more than 12 tons of equipment, will be traveling around the world en masse for the first leg of the tour in a specially commissioned and converted Astraeus Boeing 757 decorated with Maiden and its mascot Eddie designs. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who is also a qualified airline captain flying for Astraeus Airlines, will pilot the plane, flying over 50,000 miles. . .

Ahhhh Ticketmaster. Love em or hate em, they have a near monopoly on event ticket sales... According to an article over at MSN Money, that position is changing:

...Internet technology is doing what the nation's once-hottest rock band couldn't: loosening the tight grip on the lucrative live-concert and sporting-event scene held by Ticketmaster, a unit of Internet conglomerate IAC/InterActiveCorp (IACI, news, msgs).
